Pintember: Jewelry Hanger

I changed up this one a little bit. Here Is the pin that inspired me to clean up part of my mess...

Here is the problem...

In that mess there are:

3 rings
1 bracelet
1 anklet
1 watch
13 pairs of post earrings
and...
5 pairs of hook earrings!!!

What a mess! All within a 4" circle!

Every time I want something from the tiny dish I need to dump it on my bed!

And the worst part is that there are more that I would like to have easily accessible too...

So here it goes...

I will be taking  3 different sizes of embroidery hoops and filling it with a light   colored crinoline, since I'm not a lace type of girl. It's a color that matches the fabric from a future project to be done this month.

Sorry, the pictures are a little blurry. But I think you have the idea. Just so you know...I put all of my real earrings on the small ring that can be popped into my night stand in case workers or someone else are coming in the house. I also hung each ring up with just an ordinary straight pin. I have been told that they can hold up to 5 pounds each. I'm pretty sure my earrings will be safe on them!

And did you notice? There is space for plenty more!

And it only came to $4.76 plus tax! Without coupons! Thanks Hobby Lobby!

Definitely a great pin!

Pintember: Infinity scarves

Thanks to having the rest of the t-shirt leftover from yesterday's project...I could make today's...

Kinda...anyway...

I have been wanting an infinity scarf for a while now. But I'm waaay too cheap to fork up $40 bucks for one!

But I don't dye things. It's just too messy! Maybe I'll get up the guts to do it one day...

But in the mean time...I made these...They'll do just fine!

You can wear them each individually. Like these...

Or all together. Like this...

This is the most simple way to make a scarf. Make sure you have a t-shirt with no side seams. And S-T-R-E-T-C-H!

And...DONE!

Pintember: Recycled t-shirt necklaces

Here is the original Pinterest post that inspired today's craft:

Source: etsy.com via Samantha on Pinterest

Here are a few things I made...Sorry...they are not all fabulous pictures...

This was super simple.

Cut. S-T-R-E-T-C-H. And...wind together.

Most of the instructions out there say to use a hot glue gun. I, personally, used fabric glue so that my necklaces will be washable.

Oh...and I forgot to say...These were made from only the sleeves of the t-shirts!

So it left me with the whole rest of the shirt to do something else with...

Pintember: Crock-pot Breakfast

Since today was the first day of school, I decided to make breakfast for the boys. Most mornings they fend for themselves. (Especially the one with the 6:58 am pick up, he's always on his own!) But since I'm not a morning person I decided to crock pot it. My husband wasn't quite sure why I bothered...but then, he's not a Jewish mom! The guilt comes along with the job!

I had pinned several crock-pot breakfasts but I wasn't thrilled with any of them. So...I kind of combined a few. I took the ideas mostly from these...I think...

This recipe from:

and this one:

I have also had a lot of experience just throwing together egg stratas. But today I wanted it to be gluten free, so I decided to leave out the bread. I wasn't wasting expensive gluten free bread on 3 people who would not appreciate it!
My biggest problem was that I had never made an egg dish in a crock pot or over night. When I was trolling trough the recipes (and their comments) I found that most over night egg dishes tend to dry out and over cook or burn. So since I am all about convenience, I put some frozen additions to the pot hoping that it would slow down the cooking even more than just putting it on low. My pot does not have a "warm" setting. I also made sure to reduce the milk added to the eggs since I knew that my food would defrost and add extra moisture to the dish.
I was still so paranoid that I was going to ruin breakfast that every time I woke up last night, I went to check on it. I had turned it on at around 10 pm and ended up turning off...I think...around 3 am. I then came down at 6 am to turn it back on so it would be warm for everyone to eat.
When my husband was serving himself breakfast he said I was kind of defeating the purpose for having put it in the crock-pot in the first place. He gave me a great idea...Get a timer for it! I'll have it turn on in the middle of the night by itself! Genius!
This is what I finally came up with...

Crock-pot Baked Eggs (serves 4, generously)

8 large eggs
1/2 cup milk (I used skim, If using fresh vegetables and meat add a little more milk)
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried minced toasted onion flakes
1/2 tsp dried chives
dash granulated garlic
sea salt and pepper to taste
1 c chopped ham, frozen (I used leftover ham steak)
1/2 c chopped sweet red peppers, frozen
1 c chopped spinach, frozen
1 sm finely chopped onion, fresh
1-1/2 c shredded pizza cheese (mine had mozzarella and provolone)

1) Place eggs, milk and seasonings in medium mixing bowl. Whisk well. (I hate when I have scrambled eggs that have a bit of white in them!)
2) Spray crock-pot dish really well with cooking spray.
3) Layer veggies, cheese and meat in pot. I alternated with the eggs. (I wanted to make sure I had enough egg mixture to cover the extras.)
4) Place in crock in crock-pot on low for 5 hours.
5) Maybe, make yourself a piece of toast...and enjoy!

Oh...and all of my seasonings (but the salt) came from Penzey's Spices! I love this place! And just so you know...the catalog is very worth having in hand! It has recipes and it tells you what each of the seasoning are used for.

Pintember!

My friend, Carrie at Wash My Cloth, has decided to do something called Pintember. And I have decided to join her!

Basically, it's taking all of those pins that we have piled up on Pinterest and actually do them and tell you about them and how they worked out for us. One for each day of September. However, I'll be getting a late start on it. I'll be waiting until Tuesday, the first day of school for my boys, to get started.

I hope that you'll join me in doing (using) the pins you have collected. And hopefully, if you have a blog of your own you will join me in posting your experiences too. Please leave me a link to your blog if you do. Or at least leave me a comment about it if you don't. I'd love to hear about it!

Alterations

I have to say that learning how to sew at an early age has come in quite handy for this vertically challenged individual!

And...Why is it that most sundresses are made for the woman with tiny boobs? It drives me nuts! I may not be well endowed but I've got cleavage! How is someone who needs to wear a bra supposed to wear this?

Why the twist on the shoulder? Really? Where is a bra strap supposed to hide?

And did you notice how low cut it is too? A man must have designed this dress!!

As well as the fact that it is dragging the floor...This mannequin is about my height. Very convenient! (That part I do understand. You can always shorten clothing.)

Well...Now that I have untwisted the shoulder, taken it up in the shoulder and sewed up some V part together...I now have a place to hide a bra and it is no longer too long!

Yay! I have a new maxi-sundress!

Liebster Blog Award

I have been asked by my friend Carrie at Weaver Girl Guz to answer these questions. She was given a Liebster Blog Award. It is given to upcoming bloggers who have 200 followers or less. The word Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome. And she would like for me to be considered and wants me to answer these questions. So here it goes...

1. What was the last thing you ate? You caught me at a good time...I just had homemade quinoa salad with red peppers, cucumbers, cannellini beans, garbanzo beans, olives, feta cheese and a homemade Italian style dressing with Dijon mustard. And to drink, an iced blueberry green tea made in the fridge.

2. If you could learn to cook one thing, what would it be? Yeast bread. I have tried it a few times and failed miserably!

3. If you were already in your car, and had 1 hour to waste, what store would you visit?  My husband laughed (more like, snorted) at that question. It's tough to decide! I love shopping!

4. Where would you most like to travel to? These days...any place we can drive to.

5. What important items are you out of in your house right now? Believe it or not...right now it's not as bad as usual. My hubby just helped me go shopping the other day.

6. Name three songs on your exercise/clean the house playlist? In the unlikely chance that I were to actually be cleaning the hose it would probably be Motown.

7. What is your favorite form of internet procrastination? Definitely Pinterest! I go through the app on my ipod at least once a day to check out list of new pins from people I follow. My friend, Carrie, has invited me to do Pintember  with her. I would love for you to join in with us and share your links so I can see what you are up to.

8. What other writing project would you like to tackle beyond (or within) your blog? A novel? Memoir? I'm not a huge writer. Being consistent with my blog and writing most days will be a great accomplishment for me.

9. What is your idea of happiness? Everyone in my house being healthy at the same time. Being able to get together with the whole family for more than an hour and still having everyone smiling.

10. If you could have any job, what would it be? I have always wanted to run my own store. But once I became an adult, I realized that it came with long hours. I would say, having a store that could stay open all the proper hours without me having to always be there.

11. What would you do if you had the house to yourself tonight? I would have to say, watch some romantic comedies and sew. I have all of a sudden become intrigued with revamping my clothes that I don't wear anymore into something that I would. And I like to watch something easy to watch/listen to (something brainless and funny) better than just listening to music while I sew.

I would like my friends to have a chance at the award. I would like for you to answer the same questions:
