Alterations

I have to say that learning how to sew at an early age has come in quite handy for this vertically challenged individual!

And...Why is it that most sundresses are made for the woman with tiny boobs? It drives me nuts! I may not be well endowed but I've got cleavage! How is someone who needs to wear a bra supposed to wear this?

Why the twist on the shoulder? Really? Where is a bra strap supposed to hide?

And did you notice how low cut it is too? A man must have designed this dress!!

As well as the fact that it is dragging the floor...This mannequin is about my height. Very convenient! (That part I do understand. You can always shorten clothing.)







Well...Now that I have untwisted the shoulder, taken it up in the shoulder and sewed up some V part together...I now have a place to hide a bra and it is no longer too long!

Yay! I have a new maxi-sundress!

Fabric envelope

D has a friend, Jack, that comes over here all of the time. He doesn't own a cell phone but he does own an HTC tablet. He brings it...uncovered, every time. It makes me nervous. A 12 year old with a few hundred dollar tablet loose in his hand...?

So this morning I offered to make a cover for it...if he wanted. "I can make you an envelope out of jeans in about 10 minutes." Jack agreed. He gave input to the color of cover...and away he went with the tablet to hang with D (after I measured it).

Ten minutes later...

And Jack is now happy with his new tablet cover!

 

"Home" Repairs

I am so glad that Glad(iola) taught me how to sew when I was just a kid. No pun intended, by the way.

Over the years I have been able to make many "home" repairs for my self. Like this one right here...

These are my hubby's work pants. They no longer have a cuff in them but who cares? Hey, they don't look ratty anymore!

Thanks to Glad I just saved myself about $35! I can't tell you how much money I have saved myself over the years...LOTS!

Oh and I fixed 'em...He can iron 'em.

I have a feeling I'll be fixing more once he sees how "OK" they can look. I'm not sure if he actually trusted my workmanship. I have offered to do it many times over the years and has always turned me down.

Machines

Well, when I tried to make my mother in law something for Christmas, I discovered that the darn thing would not pull any fabric through at all. So I ended up using a type of fabric super glue. When speaking to my sister in law she said she had a problem like that once and it took forever to fix and that I was better off just getting a new machine since mine was about 50 years old (no exaggeration).

So...

I am the proud owner of one of these now...

It's a  Brother Project Runway Computerized PC210PRW Limited Edition Sewing Machine!!!

I haven't worked on a new one since I was a kid. I'm so excited!

But before I can use it I need to clean this mess below up... (sorry for the weird change of font! I have no idea how to fix it).

And also reorganize everything and rearrange the tiny room.

I want to start sewing again!

I started...

Well...I started to lay it out...At the moment it is sitting on Alex's floor. When Danny saw it he asked "Why is it in here?", well..."Where else could I put it that I wouldn't have to move it for a week?" If you didn't read my other post...Alex is at scout camp for a week, so it can stay put until I'm ready for it.

The multi-colored stripe thing on the bottom of the picture is the pillow sham that I forgot to return with the original comforter, so I'm kind of using it as inspiration. I know I should probably bring it back to the store but if the comforter is damaged anyway, it's just going to get trashed...so why worry. I used to be a softlines manager at a large discount department store and I know that we used to have to shred things that we "damaged" and "wrote off" before tossing them in the garbage. And I figure...we should get something extra for all of the trouble I'm now going through because of their bad quality. No reason to just throw it in the garbage when I can get some use out of it. I know...I'm bad...
