I have always felt that I am an intelligent individual...but not quite so much in the last few years. I haven't really used my brain since I was a Kmart Manager, before my almost 14 year old (tomorrow) was born.
When my friend Carrie, offered me a job to help with her job doing something called abstracting...part-time (depending on how I'm feeling)...I said "I'm not sure if I'm smart enough." She then proceeded to tell me "Of course you are!"
Ummm...I beg to differ.
Legal jargon? Really? You want me to figure out what it says and summarize it on this form? Really?
OK...I'll give it a try.
It's been almost 2 months and only about 11 or 12 leases later (it took a couple of weeks to get started, and then I got sick for a week, then I was in the learning stages) and I am finally confident with doing it...I think.
She says I'm on track...I hope I am...Or I'm not as smart as anyone thought I was...
Ever heard "she's not as smart as she looks"? That could be me...
My life has changed for the better in so many ways. Can Yours? Of course it can! You just need to try.

Bad Day
I guess it all started on Saturday when D slipped off of the last step onto the ceramic floor. When he took off his sock on Sunday we discovered that it was very possible that something was broken...either his toe (not too big of a deal) or his metatarsal (that could be a very big deal). We had no idea. It is kind of hard to tell when the boy cries wolf, ya know? Every injury sounds like it's something big.
I had to drive back and forth between getting D to both the doctor (starting at 1pm) and the x-ray and A to his math class at the college and back home. I felt like a yo-yo.
I figured since we had to wait a little while for A...we'd stop across the street at Mickey D's for a shake and fries...the highlight of my day and D's too I'm sure. We both love that they put whipped cream on top of every shake now-a-days!

By the time we finally got the x-ray and results (at 4:45) we found out that nothing was broken...thank goodness. It is still very swollen. He won't be going to scouts tonight. He'll be staying home with just me. Lots of ice will be involved.
What did we do all night? Let's just say that it was not the most pleasant of nights.
Like I said not a good day...
First, all of the driving I had to do all day (and driving is bad for my body) In all, eight 10-15 minute trips in 4 hours...then the not so fun evening (that I won't even start getting into).
I'm hoping today will be a better day...
Please!

"But you don't look like you feel well"
"So whose going to take D to tae kwon do?"
I decided that I would since the hubby just got home a little while ago.
He says...""But you don't look like you feel well."
My response..."I'm tired of not doing things just 'cuz I don't feel well. I feel like I'm missing too much." And I'm not pulling my weight at home. My words, not my husband's.
Something's gotta give. Right?

Reincarnated from a dog?
I think my 11 year old son, D, was reincarnated from a dog...i just realized this.

I'm not sure if I actually believe in reincarnation but if I do...than D was definitely a dog.
-pretended to be a dog when he was younger quite frequently, we called him "Shadow" then, he still does once in a while
-turned into a dog loving kid
-whenever he sees a dog he shouts it out, kind of like one dog barking at another on the street
-always points out squirrels and bunnies when he sees them, can't get back to what he was doing until it is gone from sight
-easily distractable
-needed to have parent with him when he was a baby to sleep
-still sleeps better when he does have parents in room, for instance in a hotel, when we are all in the same room
-likes to know where all of his family is at all times
-doesn't like being alone, unless it is on his own terms
-needs lots of physical "loving", he needs about 20 hugs a day...at least, if not more
-he eats like a slob, there is always something either on the table (next to the plate) or something that finds it's way to the floor
There are probably more things that my son has in common with a canine but I can't think of it at the moment...

Bad nail polish?
I have to say...there are not many things I like about my body, but I have fantastic finger nails. They are thick and strong so I do not usually do not put polish on them. I am also constantly getting compliments on them, they are long and pretty. However, I went to a wedding this weekend and felt like putting polish on to match my dress, it just completes my outfit for me.
Well...I have to tell you something very funny...
Danny hates it. At times when he notices it he will not let me near him. Who knew that he would have such an issue with me wearing finger nail polish? I wear it on my toes all summer long and he has never had any problems with it. Danny says "it just plain, creeps me out!" It is not like I have some bizarre color on, it's just a frosty dark pink.
It's been really funny, but at times, now it has been inconvenient. Danny still likes for us to read him a story before bed, hey we will still do it as long as he will let us. But with Peter sick, it is hard for him to read aloud so I was going to. But Danny is not letting me because of the polish on my nails. Too funny! And too annoying too. Whatever...his choice.
Danny is also very big into hugs. He asks for at least 10 a day just from me. But with the polish on my nails he double takes and rethinks it, each time. But he decides that the hug is more important than the polish. He had asked me to take it off. I told him that "I will take it off when it starts to chip, and not before." It was not a manicure that I paid for, just an old bottle that I already owned. Should I let him control this? I personally don't think so...he is 10, now if he was 3 and it scared him that would be a whole other story, but he's not.

Many issues
There were many "issues" in my house this morning. Getting the kids ready for school today was...shall I say...less than enjoyable. To start off, today is picture day in school. So nobody got dressed until breakfast was eaten and teeth were brushed. Alex was a real pain about what he was going to eat. Then, we got a call this morning from Danny's friend saying that if Danny was walking to school with him, then he needed to be at his house in less than 10 minutes. He hadn't even eaten breakfast yet. I made him something for him to eat while walking...but of course, it got left on the kitchen counter. That is Danny's tortilla and cheese rolled up, sitting on the cutting board. Whose fault was that? Of course it was mine...who else's fault could it have possibly been? Not Danny's...I should have just said "you don't have time, NO". But he started to whine, he's been looking forward to this all week, and he whines at too much that I absolutely can not or will not let him have, so since I thought it would be possible...I tried it. Not again!
OMG! These are the mornings I hate being a mom...I thought that we were finally past having problems getting ready for school. I can tell you...I am not looking forward to when the boys need to get up an hour and a half earlier when they start high school...I'm just glad I have almost 2 years to wait for that one...

Been busy
The past several days I have been trying to deal with some issues that Alex had at camp. It has not been a very pleasant 2 days. And my family wonders why I have stomach ulcers...At least, Pete was home today to help me try to deal with it all, He came home from camping with Danny last night. But my stress level is still through the roof.
I need these problems to end abruptly. I wish they would but I know that they are going to take a really long time to thoroughly work through.
